Te Kaakano O Taniwharau Youth Programme

The Youth Project provides

• advocacy, for example in school, court, police, CYPFS

• support and counselling in whanau difficulties and for young families

• support for young people to connect with their extended whanau, including trips to Marae in areas that relate to whanau of participants

• programmes that promote responsible attitudes to drugs, alcohol and sex

• access and training in information technologies

The Youth Project is varied and depends on the needs of the young people who are involved

Young people drop in after school or during the day (if they are out of school) to drink coffee, have a snack, a chat, check it out, surf the net, use the computer for homework or go through some problems with peers or adult support

Alternative Education at Te Nohoanga o Torongare-Ruarangi

Currently we have between 14 and 16 young people participating every weekday in our education programme

They have chosen to include Te Reo Maori, English, Maths, Art, Music, Woodwork, Computers, Drama, Life Skills and Work based skills

The youth at the 'school' are an integral part of our wider Community House community and participates in future visioning and in getting projects like the 'Free Doctor' off the ground.
